It has been decided to speed up the work on the ₹19.90 crore drinking water project sanctioned under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme to ensure clean water availability within the limits of the Kunnamkulam Municipality. The decision was taken at a high-level official meeting held at the municipality, chaired by Municipal Chairperson Soumya Anilan.
Under the project, for which the tendering process has been completed, water pumped from Velliyankallu in Trithala will be brought to a plant built on one acre of land in Kootanad for purification. The proposed plant will have the capacity to purify 15 million liters of water per day.
The water purified at the Kootanad treatment plant will be pumped to the YMCA tank in Kunnamkulam, two tanks on Thrissur Road, and a 10-lakh-liter capacity tank currently under construction at Kurukkanpara. Drinking water will be distributed to various wards of the municipality from these facilities. Additionally, there is a proposal to construct a new water tank at Aduppootty as part of the project.
Chairperson Soumya Anilan stated that the completion of the project would offer a permanent solution to the drinking water scarcity faced by the municipality. The goal is to complete 50 percent of the construction work by March 2027.
